As I sit in a simple villa hearing the crashing waves of the Zanzibar coast just a few meters from my door, I am overwhelmed by the goodness and grace of my Best Friend.
For a long time I have dreamed of bringing my family to Africa. Many things have obstructed my path: but the dream remained! I bought my wife a Landrover way back in 2008 with this dream in mind. It fitted our family of 4 boys perfectly and came with old man emu(not sure of brand) suspension roof rack bull bar and tree wire guards. I regretted buying this car a few times mainly when paying repair bills but the dream remained. My dad recently encouraged me to trade this car in for an economical model and well my response was before I do that I need to fulfil the dream I bought it for.
I contacted an old school friend and put into motion the plan that has me sitting right now where I am in a little piece of Africa’s paradise.
Not everything has gone to plan! In my excitement I forgot some key documents behind. The bubble nearly burst at blight bridge when we were sent back to Musina to get the correct documents. Frantic phone calls to reliable family, friends and colleagues enabled me to retrieve the necessary unabridged birth certificates and log books to get across the border. My amazing cousins who met us at Louie Trichardt did there best to help us here and there overcome every obstruction that would get in the way of our Dream Holiday. I love how God chooses to use people to make His dreams come true!
My gran always used to say “why does God make me pray to Him, and then send people to answer my prayers?” Well I guess that’s just the way he chooses to be. It gives us meaning knowing we somehow part of His Big dream ! The Redemption of what is already His!
Well safely in Zim we had so much fun with family. The obstacles to my not so well kept secret of going to Zanzibar had to be overcome! 1st Yellow fever shots we needed to have that I again hadn’t planned properly. Then some currency cause in Africa Money talks. Well God would use a Farmer in Zim another cousin an amazing man who remains a farmer in Zimbabwe despite the many challenges of that country. He also filled up my diesel in the Landy and my Jerry can so well after our return flight to Harare from Zanzibar we ready to drive home to SA.
Well as it turned out my agent for the trip to Zanzibar was less organised than me! I left things in His hands and now had to do them myself anyway. Worst case scenario I may have to pay for my holiday twice. Once to Him and once directly to the locals who don’t Trust he will pay my money over to them. Cash is king in Zanzibar. If this should happen, and I hope it doesn’t, maybe I’ll know a little how God feels paying for something he owned. Redeeming the Earth He created.
We have overcome many obstacles to have this holiday and will overcome many more.
Yes to him who overcomes I give the CROWN of LIFE
